About The Pilates Room
The Pilates Room opened its doors in November 2002. Owner/instructors
Elizabeth Jay and Alison Thiem were both classically trained and certified
through the New York Pilates Studio under the tutelage of Bob Leikens
and Romana Kryzanowska, whom Joseph Pilates personally named to carry
on his life's work through his philosophy and training methods. Together,
Alison and Elizabeth have more than seventeen years of teaching experience
and share a similar vision as to how best to deliver quality Pilates
instruction. Their goal is to create a Pilates practice that focuses
on personalized attention in an intimate setting, rather than a "Pilates
factory" that serves as many clients as possible, as quickly as possible.
"If our students feel better when they walk out the door, we feel
like we have succeeded. Getting fit and staying in shape doesn't have
to be boring or monotonous. Achieving your fitness goals has to be
enjoyable and at The Pilates Room our mission is to make getting fit
fun!"
Elizabeth and Alison believe that one-on-one training is the most
successful way to maximize the benefits of the Pilates Method. The
beauty of Pilates lies in its subtle movements and fine-tuned adjustments.
These "details," which are the very thing responsible for a practitioner's
improvements and results, are often lost in large group classes where
students are not under the watchful eye of an experienced instructor.
Private one-on-one sessions allow students to reach their greatest
potential through highly customized workouts designed to accommodate
their individual needs. The Pilates Room offers a comfortable, intimate,
and non-competitive environment that nurtures the growth and success
of each student. Its instructors encourage students to achieve their
individual fitness goals, which, ultimately, will lead to an improved
quality of life and an increased sense of overall well-being.
