Getting Started
New to Pilates? Here's what to expect.
At The Pilates Room, you will always receive one-on-one training
with a certified instructor. Your 55-minute session will include
specially tailored exercises done on both the Pilates apparatus
and on the floor, or "mat." Your instructor will guide
you through your workout, giving you verbal instructions and encouragement,
as well as providing "hands on" physical adjustments to
ensure the best alignment and the most safe, effective movement
possible. Over the course of several sessions, depending on your
ability and progress, the practice will evolve from fundamental
movements to a more complex series of exercises.
At larger studios, there is no guarantee that you will work repeatedly
with the same instructor. At The Pilates Room, for the first few weeks
while you are familiarizing yourself with the exercises and becoming
comfortable with the apparatus, you always will train with the same
instructor. This consistency enables your instructor to familiarize
herself with your strengths, limitations, history of injuries (if
any), and goals. As you grow stronger and your skills improve, we
encourage you to begin alternating instructors in order to take advantage
of the different talents, creativity, and insights of each member
of our staff. Of course, if you prefer to work with the same instructor,
we will accommodate your request!
